Product Description:
To break a centuries-old curse, beautiful, headstrong Lady Kathleen MacDavid knows she must ignore every rule of propriety by seducing—and marrying—the Earl of Norcroft. So she sets off for London, braving scandal and ruin to achieve her goal . . . until a crazy bump on the head makes her forget nearly everything.
The thrill of winning a bet—that he'd be the last of his set to wed—hasn't eased the earl's pain of losing his friends to marriage. Still, he'd be willing to settle down if he could meet someone worthy of his love—and desire. But he has met no such woman, until Kathleen is brought to him. Suspicious of her motives, he's determined to resist her seductive ways. But sometimes even the most proper gentleman finds it expedient to act improperly . . .

Though I read this book because it is the final episode of this series, I found the story line to be slow and the characters not very endearing. The plot was so so and a bit cliche. The banter between Kathleen and Oliver was good but it just didn't sustain throughout the book. The secondary characters got in the way and it would have been more enjoyable to see the other heroes from the past books have a part in this plot, it was after all the final book. Not a badly written book, as Ms Alexander's writing is well done. For me it was the plot that was a disappointment, especially for a series that should have ended on a high note not a mediocre one. If you want to read it then get it used or at your local library. It won't be on my keeper shelf along side the other books in this series.

To break a century old curse, that plagues her family as well as the Leighton family, Lady Kathleen MacDavid has to cast every society rule to the wind and seduce and marry Oliver Leighton, the Earl of Norcroft. But how should she do that, especially because he is a stranger. Together with her sister she comes up with the idea to pretend that she has lost her memory, but her sister casts a spell and the pretending becomes reality. How will Oliver react when he finds out the truth, especially because he is falling for the mysterious lady.
As always Ms. Alexander gifts her readers with an enjoyable historical romance, this time even with a light touch of paranormal due to the magic that Kathleen's sister Hannah uses to help Kathleen in her quest to win Oliver's heart. The funny and sensual characters make the book so enjoyable. She really has a way to draw her reader into the story and you have the feeling you are becoming a part of it.
There are quite a few interesting secondary characters, like Oliver's cousin, who might be good material for upcoming books.
SEDUCTION OF A PROPER GENTLEMAN is the last instalment of the Last Man Standing series, but like all of the previous books you can also read this one as a stand-alone.
If you are looking for a light romantic book to spend a cold winter evening with SEDUCTION OF A PROPER GENTLEMAN is the perfect choice for you. You can't do anything wrong with a book by Ms. Alexander.

If you feel you have the slightest bit of sophistication, do not buy this book! The plot is singular. I bought it because I was sick and needed a read. I figured a New York Times Bestseller had to be ok. Not even ok. One of the most boring books I ever read. I only finished it because I had nothing else to read.

I don't know, if because I'm such a Gaelen Foley, Julia London & Lisa Kleypas fan that I expect more from a book anymore but the last few Victoria Alexander books I've read have been mediocre at best, save for A Little Bit Wicked, which I enjoyed. While I enjoyed her older work, and Her Highness, My Wife is one of my favorite reads ever, her more recent books have lacked excitement and, in fact, I haven't even been able to finish some. What really grated about this book is the constant silly bantering back and forth between all the characters, especially Oliver and Kate/Kathleen. The whole plot was really rather goofy and all this talk of curses and magic and spells bored me. And then, he wants to marry her and she wants to marry him and then he refuses to marry her and she still wants to marry him and then he decides to marry her and she decides she can't marry him and on and on it went with a bunch of other blah bantering. I may be in the minority here but there are a lot better reads out there than this. Where did the old Victoria Alexander go?
