I won this book at school when I about six years old, and it was one of the very first books I remember reading to myself. I loved it! It had a truly lasting impression on me. I am now in my twenties and studying Library Science- and I sometimes still think of this story when I sit in the tub, or when I need an example of a picture book I am fond of. This book has stayed in my mind and made a very fond impression. I highly recommend this book.

My son and I love this book, and read it over and over. In the bathtub he likes to act out the part of the tub child, pretending to go down the drain and getting "rescued."
I must say though that it does evoke images and emotions that may be difficult for some young children - and for parents.
We discovered this book last year when my son was 2 1/2. A few weeks after we very first read the book, the tsunami hit. After that, I couldn't read it without crying - so it was banished to the shelf for a year. We recently took it out again, and we really do enjoy the story. My son listens with baited breath and heaves a sigh of relief each time the child is rescued.

My 2 and 4 yr olds both request this book at least twice a day. I only wish we could buy actual Tub People figures, because I know my boys would have hours of fun acting out the story and coming up with more of their own.
This is a delightful story of toys coming to life, and has the heartwarming theme of reuniting a family. I still don't mind reading it over and over.

Our little girl was introduced to "the tub people" at the age of 2 1/2 while in pre-school. The story suggests to the child that that large animate objects can slip unnoticed down drains and that families can be split up without warning. After having this book read to her, our child refused to allow any of her toys, or the soap, or the shampoo, to remain anywhere near the bathtub when she was bathing. She was afraid that they would go down the drain like the toy child in the story! Further, she became afraid to go swimming, as she thought that she herself might go down the pool drain. Luckily, we have been able to work through her fears, partly by keeping her away from this book. Needless to say, I would not recomend this book to any parent of a child under 3 1/2.

I have to buy this book after borrowing it from the library. My daughter always has me read it 2 or 3 times in row. Although the very first time we read it, was a bit dramatic for her. We got to the "heavy drama part" in the story, and I heard a whimper from my daughter. I turned and saw her lip quivering, and her eyes filling up with tears. I hurried up and explained, "Don't worry honey -- he gets saved--he gets saved." And then we flipped a couple pages ahead. "See, the Tub Child is back with his family." And so she was quickly reassured. As soon as we finished the story, her response was, "Read it Again! Read it Again!" And no more tears. But she still always flips ahead to the page where the Tub Child is back with his family!
