Editor's Notes and Comments:

Brief Book Summary:
'What are the leading economic indicators? What is the Federal Reserve and why is it so powerful? What determines stock prices? How will the economy affect my investments and my job?' Information about the economy is everywhere, but few people really understand it. Even fewer know how to use it. Now Standard & Poor's chief economist-one of the most respected figures in the financial world-come to their rescue with a smart, readable guide to economics for everyone. Most importantly, the author discusses the economy in terms of investors' needs and concerns. Assuming no prior knowledge of economics, he give readers the understanding they need to evaluate current and future conditions and choose investments appropriately. In clear, jargon-free language, he explains: What the economy is; How we measure and track it; What the major investment markets are and why they work the way they do; What's behind business cycles, inflation, and other such phenomena; Who the key economic players are; How investors can use the economy to their benefit; And how they can do some basic forecasting themselves. Numerous charts, graphs, and tables make the information even easier to understand. For the millions of investors eager to educate themselves about economic matters and reap the profits, this lively and timeless book will be a 'must' buy.

Amazon.com:
David M. Blitzer, chief economist at Standard & Poor's, feels that a healthy merger of 'common sense and good economic analysis' should ultimately prove fascinating as well as lucrative. To that end, he strives to demystify our frequently puzzling financial system and provide insights into its often enigmatic operation in his book, What's the Economy Trying to Tell You? Everyone's Guide to Understanding and Profiting from the Economy.

Conceding from the outset that 'economics is not laboratory science,' Blitzer combines cogent explanations of important events and activities with relevant money-management suggestions to advance a series of understandable concepts and practical ideas that could turn the universal pursuit of profit into an intellectually stimulating and financially rewarding fiscal adventure. Without relying on the insider terminology and complicated expositions that typically mark (and mar) such efforts, he clearly shows how to measure and track conditions by following interest rates, inflation, stocks, and other criteria. He also explains the overall importance of various markets, cycles, and key players, and reveals how such information can successfully be used yesterday and in the future. A concluding chapter on additional references includes pointers toward respected old and new media, along with other helpful resources. --Howard Rothman

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Okay. This is soooo essential to business school.
I am a student at UCLA in business school taking Economics. This is the best book ever! I use it night and day for refrence. A friend recomended it, so I decided to buy it. It is sooo good.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Buy it! You'll like it!
This book is outstanding! I'm also an economist and loved the advice. It's so useful.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Disappointing
Flat writing makes this book dull, much like a brochure you might get from your brokerage. Too simplistically written to be anything more than a primer for absolute beginners, and even there I think you can do better elsewhere. Later chapters are somewhat useful in explaining the business cycle, but one senses that this book doesn't fulfill its goal.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Disappointing
What promised to be an interesting look at the business cycle is actually rather dull and unoriginal. As simplistic as the writing is, it doesn't really help you understand the business cycle in any detail. Several chapters near the end are pretty good, but otherwise I've learned more from an issue of Forbes.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Read this Amazing Book!
I loved this book! I definitely reccomend it to someone interested in the business world!
