Product Description:
They are known simply as The Royal Four—but there’s nothing simple about the elite band of spies who serve the King in secrecy. Their missions are dangerous, their love lives are scandalous…and each man in the Royal Four has his own secrets. This is the story of the spy known as The Lion…
SURRENDER TO A WICKED SPYOlivia Calwell’s new husband, Dane, is everything she could have ever hoped for in a man. The handsome Lord Greenleigh is charming, debonair, even a bit mysterious…and just thinking of their wedding night makes Olivia blush with pleasure. Yet she can’t help but wonder what exactly Dane does all day. His hushed meetings with strangers, his odd comings and goings—it is all enough to drive Olivia mad! Could her beloved husband be involved in something dangerous? Could he even be spying for France?
Spy Dane Calwell knows the new Lady Greenleigh is poised, well educated, and utterly captivating. But he’s just discovered that Olivia is also the most curious creature he has ever met! Most wives don’t give a whit what their husbands do all day. Why must Olivia ask so many questions—and meddle in matters that do not concern her? Truth be told, Dane finds Olivia’s amateur sleuthing enchanting…even a little sexy. But when Olivia gets too close to the mission at hand, Dane must try to stop her before it’s too late—or risk losing his beautiful wife forever…

Once again, Celeste Bradley has completely captivated me. I instantly fell in love with her charasters and the very first several chapters are some of the most enthralling ones that I believe I have ever read. They snatched my attention and I just could NOT put the book down. The book certainly starts off with quite a bang and it was impossible not to fall for her characters. She has the uncanny ability to write very believeable, likable, and pitiable characters who keep you panting for more. Bradley is an amazing author and this work--her second on in The Royal Four series--is no disapointment! I highly recommend this book for anyone else who loves her other works!

I love this series! Can't wait to read more. You'd hink it'd get boring after awhile, but Miss Bradley has tremendous talent. Her characters are so likeable.

This is the second book in the Royal Four Series and is the story of the Lion. Lord Dane Calwell is very serious about his duty to the crown...his father was a traitor who fell in love with a French spy and betrayed secrets out of that love. Dane knows he has to marry he has a duty to produce an heir and chooses Olivia because she seems to be of sturdy stock, he will never be able to love because it will interfere with his duties. It seems Dane has an unusual problem (he is unnaturally large Victoria refers to him as a blond Viking) and needs a wife who will be able to withstand his attentions and produce an heir.
Olivia knows her family is desperate to make a good match for her because of their financial problems...it was thought that her brother Walter would save the family by marrying an heiress but he drowned a month before. Olivia's mother never worried about a match for her because she spent all her attention on Walter. Out of desperation Olivia's mother pushes her into the Thames so that Lord Dane will jump in and rescue her. Olivia, a strong swimmer, ends up having to rescue Lord Dane who is stuck in the mud after jumping in to save her. A few days later, she is shocked to learn she has been bethrothed to him by her father. Dane makes no endeavor to woo her and barely even sees her until the night of her wedding. Dane comes in on their wedding night and does delicious things to Olivia without actually consummating their marriage. Olivia is confused and turns to a local courtesan to help her with her marital woes, what happens later is hilarious but some scenes border on erotica. Not only is Olivia confused about their personal relationship, she is curious about the secret "business" dealings her husband is always having. It seems that he is always meeting with the same few men but Dane keeps putting her off when she asks questions. Before long, it seems that devious things are underfoot and someone is out to undermine Olivia. Dane struggles against his growing feelings for Olivia, when things go bad, he forces himself to put duty very first and almost destroys the one woman who ever meant anything to him.
I love Celeste Bradley's characters. They are always intense, with depth, humour and not at all your typical regency characters. Can't wait for the third book.

Celeste Bradley, the writer who has potential but never seems to grasp the romance genre, offers us a rather dismal, nonsensical tale absolutely nothing like the back cover blurb suggests.
This is the story of a heroine whose parents throw her at the hero in the setup for a contrived hasty marriage. A hero who needs an heir but is too large in the anatomy to consummate any relationship. A romance that relies on the eager heroine's lust and hero's desire to play Dominatrix, with some absurd sex toys, to substitute for love scenes and sexual tension. A character story that makes both leads less appealing as the story goes on for arbitrary reasons. (Makes you wonder if Celeste Bradley grew to hate her characters as she was forced to write.) And finally a spy story that made absolutely no sense except as an arbitrary means to inflict a sexual setup or bodily harm on its victims.
For example, Dane stumbles across his wife shot in the woods by the villain she tried to chase. (After having assumed she left and leaving her to fend for herself for a day and a half despite everyone telling him he should search for her.) He takes her home in concern but still believes she was in league with the man... who left her for dead! Only so his supicion sends her away and she's again captured and threatened with death in another gruesome way.
I'm also not convinced any of the sex "training" scenes can qualify as anything but a woman's porn. This seems to be a frequent problem of Bradley's. She can write humour and usually has a fair grasp of intrigue but she has little clue how to write romance. One never feels the characters feel anything more besides lust for each other.

Surrender to a Wicked Spy by Celeste Bradley is the second book in the Royal Four Series which takes characters from her earlier series the Liar's Club. I am reading both of the series out of order so that is interesting. This novel tells the story of Dane (one of the Royal Four) who must marry someone who he would never love - so he picks Olivia. For most of the novel Olivia is trying to understand Dane while he tries to ignore Olivia. The second half is pure adventure and mystery. The Royal Four Series To Wed A Scandalous Spy (1), Surrender to a Wicked Spy (2),
One Night With A Spy (3) and Seducing The Spy.
