Product Description:
From America’s #1 bestselling crime writers comes the extraordinary new Kay Scarpetta novel.

Leaving behind her private forensic pathology practice in Charleston, South Carolina, Kay Scarpetta accepts an assignment in New York City, where the NYPD has asked her to examine an injured man on Bellevue Hospital’s psychiatric prison ward. The handcuffed and chained patient, Oscar Bane, has specifically asked for her, and when she literally has her gloved hands on him, he begins to talk—and the story he has to tell turns out to be one of the most bizarre she has ever heard.

The injuries, he says, were sustained in the course of a murder . . . that he did not commit. Is Bane a criminally insane stalker who has fixed on Scarpetta? Or is his paranoid tale true, and it is he who is being spied on, followed and stalked by the actual killer? The one thing Scarpetta knows for certain is that a woman has been tortured and murdered—and more violent deaths will follow. Gradually, an inexplicable and horrifying truth emerges: Whoever is committing the crimes knows where his prey is at all times. Is it a person, a government? And what is the connection between the victims?

In the days that follow, Scarpetta; her forensic psychologist husband, Benton Wesley; and her niece, Lucy, who has recently formed her own forensic computer investigation firm in New York, will undertake a harrowing chase through cyberspace and the all-too-real streets of the city—an odyssey that will take them at once to places they never knew, and much, much too close to home.

Throughout, Cornwell delivers shocking twists and turns, and the kind of cutting-edge technology that only she can provide. Once again, she proves her exceptional ability to entertain and enthrall.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Back to What We Loved About Scarpetta and Crew
I just finished reading this book, and I absolutely loved it! I think this is the best one Cornwell has done in a while, especially after her last somewhat disappointing book. A huge part of what makes people love this series is the interactions among the main characters, not just the technical aspects of solving a murder mystery. The last couple of books have been really disappointing because it seemed like everybody was angry with everybody else and nobody was happy working together. "Scarpetta" is SO satisfying to read because we work past the animosities and get back to a bunch of professionals doing what they do best.

I loved the interaction among characters as well as the details about the Internet and cyberspace. The new romances were also a bonus. All in all, this was a very satisfying read for me. I'm looking forward to reading it again, but very first I want to go back and reread the series in order to refresh myself on many details to which Scarpetta alludes in the book.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Far from her best
I respectfully disagree with the effusive praise being heaped upon this book by so many readers. I've read every Scarpetta novel (and almost every other book by Ms. Cornwell) and think this is among her worst.

If you want her at her best, start at the beginning and then quit when you get to the 2000s.

This book is tedious ... the only reason I finished it was because I'm compulsive about finishing books that I start.

Her early stuff is outstanding ... her latter stuff has gone down hill.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - High Drama and Excitement
Wow. This was so charged with emotion I couldn't put it down for a minute. There is everything here, injustice, drama, adventure and good writing. I really enjoy reading Patricia Cornwell's books ever since Portrait of a Killer. This is definitely one of her best.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Mind Racing that leads to Explosion
This novel begins with a cadence I would imagine most crime scene investigators use with the initial search and documention--slow and scientifically methodical. There were alot of unanswered questions with the ending of her last novel Book of the Dead that needed addressing, but when she finally turns up the heat of action all hell breaks loose. I couldn't put it down and was fastened to my seat with the protective arm bars that give you an idea of what is to come in the roller coaster ride ahead. ABSOLUTELY GRIPPING!!!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - good product
I received this book very quickly, and in perfect condition. I am very pleased with the convenience of the purchase. Thanks for the great service.
