There is much potential for a bestseller in this plot, given several large organizational and literary changes. However, Michaels falls well short. His story is much too splintered to provide adequate flow. His characters are poorly developed, and very cliché. Every male is your typical steely-eyed strapping army brute, while every female seems to be plucked straight from a modeling convention. Apart from Michaels' misplaced sexual fantasies, the politics of his story make no sense whatsoever. It is obvious Michaels would rather watch a B-rate Laura Croft movie than read The Economist or Foreign Affairs. Why would Russia invade Canada with much of the world's oil in their homeland and surrounding territories? Furthermore, his description of the environmentalist terrorist organization is stuff of fantasy, at best. His understanding of geopolitics is extremely elementary. This is a fine book for ignorant warmongers who would rather read the specs on some new weapon of mass destruction instead of text that holds true literary merit. Pick this up only if you want an afternoon read that reminds you just how stupid people can be.
PS If Tom Clancy wrote this book, it would be a NY Times bestseller. He would manage the plot much more intelligently than Michaels

G. receipt "m"'s review is right on the money, but giving this book 2 stars was overly generous. The lack of character development, lack of interesting action, and the constant name dropping make this by far the worst book that bears the Clancy name (and I have read the majority of them).
I cannot express the annoyance that the weapon name dropping causes. I read a number of lines to my fiance and she literally laughed at how bad it was. Unfortunatly, I have already sold the book to a half price book store so I can't quote it, but if you are in the middle of an action sequence and you want to hear "He used the 10x50 sniper scope with the Leupold brand duplex 16 MOA reticle on the USMC DMR with a 7.62x51mm round (MER 800-100m) to shoot at the pilot in the Eurocopter EC 135 T2..." then this is the book for you. Otherwise, RUN, RUN AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS BOOK AS POSSIBLE. Even if someone gives it to you for free, you'll want some compensation for the hours of your life that you spent reading this book. I do. This is easily one of the bottom 5 books in the thousands of books I've read in my life.

[[ASIN:0761558608 Clancy's End War: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides)] is a great book written for Tom Clancy

The book had significantly fewer typos (0-2 max) than David Michaels most recent books. The action was for the most part highly scattered over a wide character base. Scenes would jump in the Clancy-esque style but often in the middle of the action, making it difficult to develop characters or even follow a character's involvement in the story. I suppose that was necessary to convey the image of a massive all-out war between 3 superpowers. There was no problem understanding what was happening in the scenes though. The writing paints a vivid picture of several front lines, describes futuristic technology quite well, and puts the reader in the action through massive amounts of dialogue. Overall this book would be excellent for a light yet fun reading for those who enjoy war video games and futuristic battle.

This was an OK book. I read it on my daily commute and it served the purpose of helping that go a bit faster, but I'm not going to sing its praises. I felt like it bounced around too much, especially early on. There is very little back story to provide you any kind of context on events. It's kind like jumping into the middle of a larger story. If you crave action, you definitely won't be disappointed. There's plenty of death and mayhem.
