Another great test prep book from Scholastic! We use these books one day a week for a change of pace, and I know they are helping reinforce concepts and prepare my child for standardized testing.

I am not impressd with this book. There are 54 pages of actual work pages, and only three pages on division. That is not nearly enough to teach division, let alone practice it. Some of the pages are way too simple, but on others there are a lot of 3 digit problems, which would not be a bad thing if they weren't crammed into small geometric shapes that the child is supposed to colour afterward. 3rd graders should be too old for that. If I wanted my child to color, I'd buy a coloring book. I gave my child scratch paper so that he wouldn't have to try to fit his work into spaces barely able to contain the problems. This book is full of busy work for a child who already knows all the stuff in it. I will not be buying any more books from this series. Yes, you can teach from it, but expect to supplement heavily. At least it's cheap.

I have compared many math activity books for the third grade. This is one of the best. It presents serious math content in interesting games/drills for all grade 3 topics, such as multiplication, division, fraction, decimal, geometry, charts, and measurement. It strikes a good balance between math concepts and fun learning. My child enjoyed it. It is effective. When my child takes Beestar's free math assessment tests (a nice web site http://www.beestar.org), he often ranks high among his peers. I give credits to this book. Highly recommend.
