Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
The authors provide a range of ideas on how to approach generational shifts in leadership so that the contributions of long-time leaders are valued, new and younger leaders' talent is recognized, and groups are better prepared to work across generational divides. Giving context to these differences, they explore the current assumptions about the upcoming transition between generations in the social sector; introduce new ideas or frames for thinking about generational leadership change; and examine how this change poses individual, organizational, and systemic challenges for those in the social sector. In addition, they provide numerous examples and practical exercises to show how to address these issues. The book concludes with critical advice on how to communicate across generations and key recommendations for future research and action.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great for those in nonprofit leadership
As a Gen X nonprofit leader going through our own leadership transition, this book was invaluable in providing a broader context for what I was personally experiencing. Rather than struggling to explain my leadership style and the differences between me and my colleagues, I've been able to use the findings in the book to help me express my perspective and to be more understanding of our differences. It was refreshing to read something that looked at the "leadership gap" with a more critical and nuanced eye, rather than just saying the nonprofit sector is in crisis. There's also a handy section of additional resources and reports. The exercises are most useful in a larger, multi-generational organization, and, while the book's format might not be flashy enough to interest millenials, I'd recommend it for all generations of nonprofit leadership.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Positive Solutions to Leadership Change
This is a very timely, practical and thought-provoking book. Using lots of real life stories, common sense exercises and thoughtful analysis, Kunreuther, Kim and Rodriguez have provided a stepping-off point for anyone pondering leadership change in the non-profit sector. Looking at how different generations can effectively and successfully work together and more importantly, lead together, is at the heart of this book. Throughout the book, there are moments of direct wisdom to help you through specific leadership change steps as well as long term thinking to help us start to redefine how we think about "leadership".
