Albert, a 13 year old boy, was going home, to Washington, D.C.. The best part was that he was going on the Titanic, the best luxury boat in the world. Plus, it was unsinkable. He had been reading about it for months. His uncle had come to London to pick them up, and he was going with them. The only dampers were that his uncle and mother were fighting, and his annoying little sister, Virginia, didn't want to go. She was complaining the whole day about not being able to bring their teacher, Miss Harcher.
They got to the boat, and boarded with the rest of the second clas passengers. At dinner that night, they met the Brewers. The parents were nice, and Sara was around Virginia's age, so he kept her busy, thats why he liked her. Emily, the girl closest to his age, though,he did not like at all. She was always showing off, and she never did anyhting fun.
Mother and uncle were in a partiuarly bad fitht the subsequent morning, and Virginia started screaming "I have a stomach ache! I have 'pendecides!" Albert knew she was lying. She knew thar whenever she said that, her mother would give her anything she wanted, because that is what her father died from.
A few weeks later, Albert went up to the top deck, to get some fresh air, and he saw a large, gray blob. He heard a loud scraping noise, and the familiar whir of the motors stoped. He ran back to the room. Virginia was asleep, and there was a note, saying that mother and uncle had gone down to thrid class to visit a friend. Gorgie, their steward came in and said that there was a mandetory meeting on the deck. Albert woke Virginia, got her lifejacket on, and told her to come and play a game with him. They went to the deck and got in line for the very first life boat, for cildren and woman only.
The sailour pulled Virginia on, but stopped Albert as he was about to get on. "How old are you?" he asked. Albert answerd "I am 13." The sailour snapped "You are to old. Go find another lifeboat." Albert pleaded, "But sir, my sister is only 6! Please let me on!" He heared a farmiliar voice. "I'll take care of her." It was Emily. "Ok" Albert relunctently agreed. He went off the find his mother, and suddenly remembered that there were no lifeboats in the third class. The boat started slipping, he fell, and somthing hit his head. He hit the water, and blacked out.

Dear Readers, I encourage sixth graders to read a variety of genres. When a student returned this book to me as not being a good choice for him, I decided to bring it home tonight to read--so far I have encountered a variety of "English words" that many sixth graders would not be familiar with -ie: fallow, petit point, satchel, houndstooth, kiosk, bowler, flat, and loo. Seems to me, a student would need some vocab development with British culture to begin to understand this book. Also this book requires a great deal of inference experience---trying to understand the unspoken reason why it is so important that the family promptly returns to D.C.... It surely will all come together, but the plot moves slowly, it lacks the page turning appeal that is needed to keep kids in 2007 reading for enjoyment. AR lists it as appropriate for 4.3; I presently think I will hard pressed to find many 6th graders who can successfully comprehend and relate to this novel. Perhaps as a group read, with direct instruction the novel would be more affective!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A great book!
You should read this book if you like books that make you never put it down. We were reading in class and the teacher assigned it for chapter 8 but I just read the whole book since it was so fun! I love the book. It talks about Albert Trask, 13 years old. He leaves from England with his Uncle, mother, and sister. His sister Virginia is very stubborn. When she doesn't get her way, she screams "Mummy help me! I have appendicitis!" Mr. Demented whoever wants the ships to go through full speed through the ICE FIELDS? Do you know how retarded that is? Anyway, the ship hits an iceberg and it starts to sink. Virginia is safe since she's only 6 but Mother and Uncle Clay are in 3rd class. Albert is worried. He can't go on a lifeboat since he's wearing long pants so he's considered a man. He gets overswept and some men save him on a lifeboat. He finds out that something terrible happens. You need to read the book to find out!

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Titanic Crossing By: Alex
I think that over all it was a good book but it really wasn't for me. I'm just not into books like this but it was good for a book. I'm not a strong reader but I have read SOS Titanic and it was a really good book over all.
The book starts out with Albert and his uncle Claybourne and his mom and ginny Alberts little sister are going to America again. They are living England to go to the states. Albert's mom gave them money to go on the ship the "unsinkable ship" the Titanic. They are going in second class on the wonderful ship.
Ginny said that she has appendicitis. Every time she doesn't get her way she holds her side and complains that it hurts. Albert notices that she is holding the wrong side of her stomach and he points it out to his mom and she just tells him that there is a very small chance that it can start on that side at least that is what the doctor told them. Albert and Ginny's dad died from appendicitis.
They are on there way to the states on the unsinkable ship so the think. All of the sudden they hit something really hard. Albert notices that it is an iceberg. The crew starts playing a really mellow song and Albert know's that the ship is going to sink.
My opinion on this book that it is a good book but it just wasnt for me. So you should read this book .

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Could she make the ship sink any faster?!?!
It was a good book I admit, but she made the ship sink slower. She didn't really tell that much detail. If your in a bind read this, if you have time to find another book do it!
