Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
In a tale ripe with passion, happenstance, and humor, One Real McCoy is romantic comedy at its absolute finest. New author Anne Harper creates a dazzling and lively experience in this tale of a woman who learns to be true to her heart in a foreign land. Kelly McCoy sets out to make a new life for herself from her native Ireland after she catches her fiancé in the arms of another lover. She accepts a position as a nanny with the Russell family in Chicago only to find herself swept off her feet by Parker MacIntyre, a local mining mogul with a troubled daughter who Kelly befriends. Outspoken to a fault, Kelly must battle issues with immigration and the general dysfunction of every American she comes across to discover that to her own self, she must and will be true. In fact, she is the real McCoy—hands down, one hundred percent.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Way better than average
This "chic lit" is way better than average and I read a lot of them. I especially like Kelly McCoy actually being a smart girl. After Bridget Jones all of these girls just haplessly bounce around until they get their man without ever having a clue. Ok the stars might be on Kelly McCoy's side but there's no doubt that this one can take care of herself and would make it in any circumstances. Also it's funny in a way even your boy-friend will appreciate. I'm not going to ramble on since it's very easy to get bored with these reviews. Final words: Buy this book!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Ms. Harper....keep em coming !
If this book were a wine, it would be a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir-rare, exciting, and full of character, leaving you wanting more, and more !
Ms. Harper's' use of "silent lines" is masterful.
Her characters are well developed, and believable. In particular is Jon Russell, whose combination of wit, wisdom, and common sense make him a true renaissance man. Ms. Harper....keep em coming !

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN
This book was great. It is full of many likeable characters, you just wish you could jump in the book and become part of their goup. Anne Harper is very gifted author who has a talent for detail. My only complaint is I can't find any other books by her.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Diamond in the rough
Please allow me to start with a disclaimer: I'm no expert in respect to reviewing another author's work. The fact of the matter is that I've never endorsed another author before. My experience is as a writer, although of late my writing consists merely of grocery lists.
That said, overall I was pleasantly surprised by this debut novel.
When judging a book, I use three criteria: writing, plot, and characters. Adding to that, if none of these have captivated me by the very first three chapters, I'm not likely to finish the book.
The writing is good - not terrific - just above fair. Much of it would have improved by proper editing. Personally I'm not bothered by a few minor typos or editorial errors.
I was pervasively fascinated how effortlessly the author interchanges the voice to tell the story. It's a third-person authorial voice, but one that deliberately keeps changing. The voice moves from distinctly omniscient, employed to present background to operating as a reflector of the consciousness of a given viewpoint character to the direct quotation of thoughts. Initially I found this effect disturbing, but well into reading the smooth transitions made me realize how much like a screenplay this novel really is. Kelly is the obvious centre of interest, and scenes not involving her are described from a third-person narrative.
The dialogue is remarkable. A mother of teenagers, I can attest that the language is very authentic. It's natural and unpretentious, which makes the reader focus on the plot. The use of orthography adds an interesting element of reality.
And finally; the brilliant use of short scenes within each chapter keeps the reader's interest. Sadly, in this high-paced world our attention span is severely shortened, and condensed scenes makes the reader want to keep reading.
The plot is enthralling, bringing a lot of characters into interaction. The development of the plot is intriguing; starting with a bang (literally) it jumps ahead a year, introduces characters and backgrounds, weaves all the characters together and ends in an entirely unexpected manner. The storyline touches on issues of social importance in today's world; from eating disorders to infidelity to immigration. There were times, however, when I felt like the author may have taken on a somewhat overwhelming task, trying to tackle this vast variety of subjects, but the encouraging tone of the narrative and the brilliant plot makes it all plausible.
Since the majority of the book is written in dialogue, it brings the characters to life, adding another element of reality.
Overall, "One Real McCoy" is a gem of a find; a diamond in the rough (pun intended). Rating it proved far more of a challenge than I had imagined. On the one hand I feel that Anne Harper has an unquestionable - albeit raw - talent, a quick wit and an enviable imagination, and I do want to encourage her to continue writing. On the other hand the work lacks in editing and the language is likely to ruffle feathers. Since I'm not bothered by either, I've decided to rate this lovely debut a solid B-.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Fun Read
This was a light, fun and cleverly written book. The characters kept my attention and I was able to relate to them in many situations. I have and will continue to recommend it! Keep up the good work Anne Harper! I look forward the subsequent one.
