Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
When the home of Alex Cross's oldest friend, Ellie Cox, is turned into the worst murder scene Alex has ever seen, the destruction leads him to believe that he's chasing a horrible new breed of killer. As Alex and his girlfriend, Brianna Stone, become entangled in the deadly Nigerian underworld of Washington D.C., what they discover is shocking: a stunningly organized gang of lethal teenagers headed by a powerful, diabolical man--the African warlord known as the Tiger. Just when the detectives think they're closing in on the elusive murderer, the Tiger disappears into thin air. Tracking him to Africa, Alex knows that he must follow. Alone.

From the author Time magazine has called 'the man who can't miss,' CROSS COUNTRY is the most heart-stopping, speed-charged, electrifying Alex Cross thriller yet.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Save your money and spend it on a real writer
Patterson is reminding me of the psychopaths he writes about. Like them he has to come up with more lurid and outlandish crimes, continually trying to outdo his last. This book is just a series of totally impossible events cobbled together with the only common thread being brutal slayings or beatings.

It is really time for him to hang it up. I have read my last Patterson.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Like it!!!
Okay...so this seems alittle different than your typical Alex Cross novel. He does seem alittle character in this novel, but dont we all change alittle throughout our lives. It is a different Alex Cross, but I can believe it. It is also a nice change from the run of the mill serial killer type story even though it does get alittle out there. I would agree with the reviewer whom finds it how to believe that Alex could survive all those near death experiences and make it back to the United States.

I will be around for the subsequent Alex Cross novel. I liked this one, but I have to say this isn't my favorate Alex Cross novel. I loved CROss and Double Cross better.

I am hoping the subsequent novel has alot to do with Kyle Craig...this novel does seem to point to that possiblility.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Alex Cross goes to Africa and gets more than he bargins for!

I stopped reading Patterson years ago, except for the Alex Cross novels. I very much enjoyed this one. Not high literature but good entertainment. I loved the original setting in Africa, putting Cross outside his comfort zone. While investigating a Massacre style murder scene he discovers one of the victims is an old friend. Disturbed and angered the case takes Cross deep into the DC underworld and finds it taking him to the Niger Delta tracking the Tiger....

The Tiger is a ruthless opponent, the leader of a gang of killers who are not what they seem. This one has some good twists, though I could see the ending coming a mile away. Still, fans of Patterson's frantic pacing will not want to miss this one.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - finally a book by james patterson himself
i have read all of mr. pattersons books and very often i have been disapointed because of short chapters and dual writers. when mr. patterson writes on his own he is a wonderful author. this is one of his best works in a long time

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Alex Cross thriller or political commentary?
I have read every one of the novels in the Alex Cross series and, for the most part, I've adored them all. However, I was really disappointed with this latest installment.

Despite the typically fast-paced writing style of any James Patterson novel, this story felt rushed. No chapter was more than four pages long and, while that would normally signal rip-roaring suspense around every curve, in this story it just felt like it was due to the fact that Mr. Patterson didn't want to flesh out any details that weren't absolutely necessary in each small section of the story.

Aside from that, what could have been a brilliant setting (Alex Cross has been every where, so of course a case in Africa doesn't seem that far off the mark for him.) turned into what felt like a complete political commentary on the state of African countries today. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure what Mr. Patterson described is accurate and there's no doubt that it's a horrible situation over there. But, if I'd wanted to read about all of the atrocities going on in Darfur I'd have read the transcripts from the last G8 Summit. I didn't need it interwoven into the back story of a thriller novel. Most of those descriptions felt like they didn't fit the real plotline at all and I finished the book with the impression that Mr. Patterson was just using his most famous literary creation to throw his political views into the faces of readers everywhere.

*SPOILER ALERT - NEXT PARAGRAPH*

The one shining hope of this novel is that it strongly hinted that the subsequent installment of this series will finally detail Alex Cross in his fight to outwit The Mastermind, Kyle Craig, once and for all. Of course, I felt like the last novel led readers to believe that part of the story was coming subsequent too.

For now, I'm just going to chalk this particular installment$ up to the author attempting to purge some material that had been bothering him, before he could get down to business and write something truly great. Let's keep our fingers crossed (no pun intended) that the subsequent time we see Alex Cross he'll be back to his fantastic literary, thrill-giving self.
