From the supplier: Neuroscience nurses must exercise the utmost in compassion and understanding with the patient and family after an unsuccessful suicide attempt. Nurses should feel out their own attitudes towards suicide, be aware of their own anger, and be conscious of truths and myths about the suicidal. Patients who endeavor suicide are unhappy and conflicted, often with a difficult family life. Patient and family require acceptance and compassion. Neurological patients face debility and perhaps physical alterations. Patient safety and prevention of further self-injury is another important nursing concern.
