Product Description:
Powerful, warm, and utterly original, this no-nonsense tall tale of Big Momma the creator is a jubilant celebration of our beautiful world - and a reminder to take good care of it.
'Earth,' said Big Momma, 'Get over here.'
And it did.
All one big ball of mud it was,
nothing much to look at.
Baby liked it all right just the way it was,
but Big Momma wasn’t finished yet.
When Big Momma makes the world, she doesn’t mess around. With a little baby on her hip and laundry piling up, she demands light and dark, earth and sky, creepers and crawlers, and lots of folks to trade stories with on the front porch. And when the work is done, Big Momma, she is pleased all right. 'That’s good,' she says. 'That’s real good.'
With down-home language and infectious rhythms, storyteller Phyllis Root spins a creation myth like no other, brilliantly illustrated by the incomparable Helen Oxenbury.

I admit to being a great fan of creation myths from various cultures and religions. "Big Momma" ranks up there with the best. Simultaneously kind, funny, generous of spirit, and visually interesting (even occasionally thrilling) this book begs to be read out loud. Highly recommended.

As a mother of 2 children - I am always looking for some new books to captivate their attention. I purchased this from the Bargain Books section of Amazon and I am so glad that I did. The illustrations are wonderful - my daughter likes to flip through the pages on her own and talk about the pictures. The story itself is about how Big Mamma created the world - kind of the way God did. Great book. Thanks for offering it as a Bargain Book Amazon!

One of my favorite picture books of all time, and I am PICKY about picture books! This is a creation myth beautifully told with gorgeous illustrations. I loved this book even before I had my daughter, and after reading it to her I realized that she tended to lose interest in the earlier illustrations that are very monochromatic. But after that, she was enthralled!

This book is a great way for kids to learn the creation story, and it is beautifully illustrated. I get it for everyone I know with small children because I love it so.
