Dr. William G. von Peters has transliterated the original and true Rheims New Testament, published by the English College in Rheims in 1582, and the original and true Douay Old Testament, published at the English College in Douay in 1609 (Genesis through Job) and 1610 (Psalms through IV Esdras) text into modern English. The fact that it was printed with a modern typeset it is very readable, including the accompanying notes. Because of printing constraints the Holy Bible needed to be published in a set of four volumes.
The very first three volumes conprise the original Douay Old Testament. Volume 1 contains Genesis through III Kings, Volume 2 contains IV Kings through Ecclesiastes and Volume 3 contains Canticle of Canticles through IV Esdras. The fourth volume of the set is the Original and True Rheims New Testament of 1582. The author has been careful not to change any words or repunctuate the sentences; only the archaic spellings have been revised to make them more legible to the modern reader. The copious commentary of the Rheims Fathers is a wealth of exegesis and apologetics, and the translation's faithfulness to the Vulgate cannot be surpassed. It makes a superb companion to a facsimile of the original Douay-Rheims Bible.
