Product Description:
From The New York Times bestselling author of White Lies, Amanda Quick's new Arcane Society novel reveals the passionate—and paranormal—secrets of proper Victorian London.
Leona Hewitt, a gifted crystal worker, isn't the only one sneaking into Lord Delbridge's private museum to recover a relic. Thaddeus Ware, a mesmerist with psychic gifts, is on a similar mission. Neither one of them has any idea that this relic—a rare ancient crystal—will lead them in a deadly chase where danger and desire await.

Leona Hewitt is determined to recover a crystal that has been in her family (on and off) for many years, but was stolen from her mother. Thaddeus Ware, who is a member of the Arcane Society, has mesmerist powers, and is determined to get the same crystal artifact for the Society. They meet over a dead body in the house of a Lord who dabbles in dark powers, both attempting to secretly steal the jewel--and they find that they need both of their skills together to accomplish their goals. Afterwards, Thaddeus is concerned about Leona, who has taken the jewel. The unscrupulous Lord and his associates want the jewel back and also want Leona, who has the power to make the crystal work for them and gain them secrets and power. Leona and Thaddeus are forced to work together again.
As with all Quick's tales, this is a fast and delightful read, particularly if you like paranormal romances.

I have read quite a few of Quicks books and this one is worth the read! I could not put it down! The subject was interesting and the characters were believeable. The romance could have been a little more involved. Overall, if you like her writing you should be satisfied with this book.

Bloody hell! Damnation! The Third Circle is so full of dastardly Victorians blustering on about the disruption of their villainous plans that it's hard to find the plot. That damnable woman keeps interfering and somehow, the cads can't manage to get rid of her in spite of their mastery of the "psychical arts." I like a good paranormal novel, but this is the second of Quick's novels that I've struggled through. Since reading should be enjoyable, not irritating, I'm off to find an author who relies less on formula and cliche.

I read the other books of this series but purchased The Third Circle on MP3 audio. I have to say that it seemed to lose something in the audio. I would have rated the other books in the Arcane Series (both the Amanda Quick book and the JAK books) as a solid 5 stars. But this one didn't grab me quite like the others. I really attribute that to the reader because it was very difficult at time to distinguish one character from another. That made it difficult to follow. The story itself was good and it did add some information to the Jones family history and the presumed history of the Nightshade organization of the comtemporary JAK novels in the same series. Hearing from Gabriel and Venetia Jones again was also nice since the books following "Second Sight" take place 200 years later and they are deceased. If you have read the previous books or intend to read subsequent books in this series, I would recommend reading this one as well but don't expect it wo be quite as stimulating.
