Product Description:
Rhett Hutchence has lived the life of a rock star - a life of sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll, but he isn't a rock star like his brother and best friend Michael Hutchence, frontman for INXS. At the age of 12, Rhett, crying and begging his mother to take him with her and Michael to Hong Kong, is left behind in Australia to live with his father. Four years later Rhett and Michael reunite by which time they are living in different worlds. Michael has begun his journey to becoming one of the most famous rock stars in the world and Rhett is addicted to drugs and headed towards self destruction. As Michael becomes more famous, Rhett's addiction to drugs worsens. However, through all of the turmoil over the years the two brothers maintained a closeness that was to last until Michael's shocking death - a death that still holds no answeres for Rhett and for those that loved him. In Total XS Rhett describes what it was like to live in the shadow of his famous brother Michael and gives us an insight into what Michael was like to those who were closest to him. This is a compelling and honest account of Rhett's life and his life with Michael and the tumultuous journey they shared together.

I ran into this book purely by accident recently and purchased it immediately. It's one of the best reads I've had ever. Straight forward with tenacity and hilariously written by Rhett Hutchence, Michael's little bro in his hip Aussie rhythm.
It takes you through a journey of Rhett and Michael's life beginning from childhood... a very poingnant and intriguing view of their development, the Hutchence family fabric and how it all wove itself and then fell apart. You get an intimate inside view of the bands' (INXS) development and watch them rocket to stardom through Rhett's eyes... as if you're standing right subsequent to him and experiencing his life during these exciting years. A polar opposite existance to say the least.
As a loyal fan of INXS from the early days, this was a special treat and it re-ignited my adoration for the band, the music, Michael's beautiful soul and a new found adoration for Rhett Hutchence. A brilliant story writer in his ability to bring you into his dark, darker and eccentric days of being a junkie, living in the shadow of his famous brother... while all along making you laugh! The brotherly love he and Michael had for each other is so heart felt in this book, it's gorgeous. Passionate and filled with striking scenarios we all can relate to on one level or another. Great stuff.

This book was written by Rhett Hutchence the brother of the late Michael Hutchence, gives us a inside look at Michael's life as well as his own turbulant life. He's very straightforward and honest about his own battle with drugs and trying to live a lifestyle like his famous brother. I really enjoyed this book not only because I am a HUGE fan of Michael but also because the wit and truthfulness that Rhett brings to this book. It just shows that we are all human and all deal with things life grants us in different ways.
