I am a Montessori teacher and found this book very helpful. I have quite a few other colleagues who have this book also!

This book has had some useful ideas, but so far, I am having trouble implementing them all. I feel like my students need a more clear-cut rewards/discipline system than what this book has to offer. I think this book has great ideas, but I'm going to incorporate some of the ideas into the system that I already have in place, which seems to work.

this book presents discipline as an avenue for teaching children social skills. It does this in a logical, sensible manner gentle to all parties.

This book is interesting to read and easy to understand. I like it so much I bought two others by the same publisher! I highly recommend this book to all teachers, future, new or veteran!

As a student teacher I got this book after reading "the very first six weeks of school" which is also part of the responsive classroom series. "rules in school" goes into more detail about creating rules with students, and goes through steps teachers should take in disciplining students, for example the "3 R's of teacher language": reinforcing, reminding, and redirecting. It also has a detailed rationale for when and how to use logical consequences. this book taught me more than my classroom management class and is a great resource.
