Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
To escape the stress from her all-consuming job as an accountant, Caroline Collier joins her overbearing mother at the family's vacation home in the mountains of North Carolina. But the serene beauty of Lake Ophelia cannot heal Caroline's heart, which is still broken by the loss of her younger brother, who died when she was seventeen. And the tension between her and her mother still simmers. Only their neighbors, the husband and daughter of one of Caroline's childhood friends, seem able to penetrate her cool reserve, giving Caroline the courage to face her biggest fears-and dive headfirst into life.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Flat story
Accountant Caroline is recuperating from a bout of panic attacks at her mother's home and is stressed over the smothering that she is receiving. She rarely spends time in North Carolina since her brother Jude was killed in a car accident 13 years earlier. She gave up on her passion for swimming and quilting too. Always feeling like she lived in his shadow, Caroline has failed to move on from the catastrophic event which encompasses her ghostly existence. But she gets a new lease on life when Jewel, the daughter of her deceased friend bribes her into getting swimming lessons, and she trades barbs with Jewel's over-protective father Drew. While Caroline wallows in self pity, Jewel gets to know the mother she lost when she comes across an unfinished quilt and her mother's diary.

White's story is thoroughly predictable and moves at a snail's pace. While I did shed tears at the end, I had a difficult time staying focused on the story because it just didn't capture my interest like her early novels. I liked Jewel getting to know her mother through the diary, but I just didn't get the connection between Caroline and Drew and long for the stories she used to write like "Falling Home."

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Pieces of the Heart
This is a wonderful story, the very first novel I have read by Karen White. I am sold, and will read many more of her novels. it's an intriguing love story, dealing with issues of guilt that are very hard to put aside for the main character. Also, it is not a typical "sappy" romance; and it has a happy ending, my type of story!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Finding a new author
I have just started reading Karen White books and am thrilled to say she is just wonderful. Each book has been filled with great characterizations and fabulous stories. As I read each book I find myself saying "WOW where have you been all my life??" The stories AND the people are so real...I am crying and laughing and thinking and wanting! I wouldn't hesitate to buy any book of hers and I sure will not hesitate to read them again and again.
Thanks Karen White!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Nice Read
I originally picked up this book because the description on the back talks about an Accountant who has panic attacks which I also am. However, the book does not go over much about her job or panic attacks, its mearly a mention through the book. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book which was a nice read.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A moving story of an adult seeking peace with her past
Stress from Caroline's job as an accountant is forcing her to take a leave from work, and seeking solace and recovery, she joins her family in North Carolina. Time off brings her anything but peace, however: memories of her dead younger brother haunt her even as she faces a stormy relationship with her mother. Family secrets and family healing permeate a moving story of an adult seeking peace with her past.
