Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Legendary guitarist Albert Lee has played with Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs, Rodney Crowell, Eric Clapton, the Everly Brothers, Dave Edmunds, Rosanne Cash, George Harrison, and Bill Wyman among many others. His speed, phrasing, feel, and choice of notes have earned him the reputation as the premier country guitarist. This DVD combines two of Albert Lee's most well-known videos, Advanced Country Guitar and Virtuoso Technique.Advanced Country Guitar features Albert at his best, playing some of his all-time favorite tunes and analyzing his baffling technique in depth. Songs include 'Fun Ranch Boogie,' 'Tiger Rag' and 'That's All Right Mama.' Albert discusses his hybrid Travis-picking style, chord voicings, scalar ideas, creating long seamless lines based off chord shapes, double-stop concepts, as well as analyses of his classic songs. Virtuoso Technique focuses on the components which make up Albert's brilliant style. Songs include 'Country Boy,' 'T-Bird to Vegas,' and 'Sweet Little Lisa.' Using dozens of practical examples, Albert covers: classic intros and endings; chicken picking; lines using thirds, sixths and tenths; banjo-style picking; chord progressions using open strings rolls; pedal steel-type bends; and voice-leading. Also included is a section on playing with a string bender and a great jam with Albert on six-string bass. Extra features include an interview with Albert about his experience playing at the Concert for George, and a DVD-ROM with full PDF transcriptions of the companion books.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - scary guitar player
Warning! If you play guitar, this instructional DVD will scare you. Albert Lee makes it look easy, but if you play, you know it's not. This is not for beginners, and not for the faint-hearted. Having said that, buy the darn thing. This things don't stay in print forever, and it's a lot of fun to listen to and watch, especially if like me, you have wondered "How does he DO that?". The DVD comes with Adobe PDF tab files for all the guitar parts. If you have a computer program that slows down audio, that would be a help. Fast doesn't even begin to cover what Lee does. It would be hard to over state how important and influential this man has been to guitar playing, so if you are feeling ambitious, or just want to watch one of the greats, by all means buy this DVD.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - From an educational point of view.... a disappointment
(If those of you reading this have already reviewed the Brent Mason tape, this might be a bit of a repeat)....Now then...Albert Lee!!..mercy, can this man play!!....but I had the feeling he was trying to keep his genius to himself!....the interviewer on the instructional cuts was doing his best to get Albert to slow up the licks....but without much success!!...for such an unusual right hand technique, as Albert certainly does have, this has to be slowed up much more than what was done on the disc....I've been playing fingerstyle for many, many years, but I was left sitting and scratching my head...then again, when the interviewer was asking Albert what scale or formation he was using for a framework for his licks, he would receive, for the most part, a somewhat vague and poorly organized answer that would seem to indicate that what he (Albert)was doing was really so simple that he found it difficult to break it down any further into its elements.....(maybe simple for Albert, but for us mortals.....) I have so much admiration and respect for Albert, I find it a little hard to sound so critical...and I think it is true that for some geniuses to teach, what to them IS very basic, can be difficult.......at any rate....good try, folks...if you can bring out another one that is so simple a child can do it, I'll probably buy, 'cause I WOULD like to know what the man is doing.......
