Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Devine Road is the gripping tale of an American soldier just arriving home, deeply affected, from the war in Iraq, when he is invited to an unworldly mountain by the mysterious Man in the Yellow Polo Shirt. The man, unbeknownst to the protagonist, has a plan: The extraordinary goings-on of the mountain and the deeds of its outlandish denizens will soon compel the young man to indelibly alter the course of humanity. Before he can claim his destiny, however, he must learn to learn again, he must learn to love again and, above all, he must learn to forgive without forgetting his transgressions and transgressors, and live for himself once more. A densely atmospheric, profoundly tragic, uproariously funny novel, undeniably epic in its scope, Devine Road is at once a compelling, genre-bending moral examination and a riotous journey across the frontiers of sex, satire, religion, language and love.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Dumbledore N-word-free version of Atari 2600
After many months of anticipation I finally got my copy of Devine Road and read through it over the past few days.
It encompasses just about every eye-rolling, groan-inducing, focus-on-the-trivial, big-picture-missing flaw I've ever seen in a book
One huge question that Devine Rode will answer is whether Snape is a better person than we thought or Dumbledore was a fool to trust him. After 25 years of litigation, in December, 2006 the FBI finally threw in the towel and disclosed the handful of still-classified pages in its John Lennon files. Kanye West barked the N-word-free version of "Goddigger" to an almost entirely white audience, accompanied by an interestingly diverse all-female string section. When I was a child I really wanted an Atari 2600 to play video games on at home. My father on the other hand would not entertain the idea. He said that as soon as he bought one console something new and better would be released and I would want that instead. Of course, he was right and I recognized this.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - What a wonderful book!
This is a suprisingly great book to read. Originally, I must admit that I was a little skeptical about reading it, but I heard such good things that I decided that I'd just take the plunge and buy it. I most definetly don't regret it! Not only could I not put it down, but since finishing it I've been impatiently awaiting for it's sequel.
I recommend this book. Especially if you like fantasy-ish novels and you want a great escape. Buy this book!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A New Road
Part epic adventure, part crash course in religious philosophy, Gabriel Coeli's Devine Road is a thoroughly enjoyable piece of visionary fiction.

The rich and meticulously realized plot brings you right into the fold, forcing you to ask your own questions along with a protagonist suddenly thrust into a world of ecumenical mystery, extraordinary magic, and overwhelming consequence.

Along with a cast of characters taken from every corner of the Earth and beyond, and a comprehensiveness that borders on modern mythology, Devine Road is a book I would recommend to anyone looking for a very different kind of novel.

All in all, a striking debut from a very promising young author, who we're sure to see more of in the future.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Don't Miss Out
Reading this book is like diving into a world of duality. All at once simple and complicated, sarcastic and gentle, violent and peaceful, fantastical and yet utterly real, this books speaks volumes of the philosophical state of religion (and, as the title states, other topics). Who or what is God? Is there any such thing as a successful organized religion? Is it about being successful anyway? Why can the desire to protect religion spark violence? And most importantly, can you actually have sex with an angel?

Coeli explores these and numerous other questions through the eyes, ears and thoughts of the Protagonist. You get the distinct feeling that Coeli writes the way he speaks, which makes the overall story and the characters within it feel very personal. The characters are lovable and detestable; and some of them are both at the same time. While most of them aren't human in their nature, they are very human in nature. You won't be able to help yourself from falling in love with many of them. It just happens...don't question it.

I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a novel that can draw you in and leave you desperate for more. Take a trip up Devine Road today. You'll be glad you did!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic
Devine Road's style can best be described as a winsome combination of Tom Robbins and Robert Heinlein. The sense of world and scope that Coeli has brought to the table is truly unique in all but the finest in fantasy fiction.

Yet to label it as just fantasy, to me, seems to do a grave disservice to the work. It hails from the finest literary tradition from the likes of Carrol and Tolkien, transporting the reader to another world and more importantly, having alot to say and show once there.

Coeli manages to keep the tone very intimate, one is never overwhelmed by faceless one-dimensional characters. The people in Devine Road leap off the page with vivid and brilliantly realized personalities.

If you're in the mood for an amazing journey up this mountain you will be richly rewarded.

I simply cannot recommend this book highly enough. It really is that good.
